Ms. Buchanan is a founding partner of Buchanan and Bruggenschmidt, where she practices primarily in the areas of family law and criminal defense. Ms. Buchanan obtained her Juris Doctor from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana in 1991 and her Bachelor of Science in Economics from Earlham College in 1988.
Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Buchanan settled in Zionsville and began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge John T. Sharpnack and Judge Ezra Friedlander at the Indiana Court of Appeals. Thereafter, Ms. Buchanan served as the Child Support Prosecutor for the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office from September of 1994 until January of 1997, where she was responsible for handling paternity cases and enforcement of child support orders.
From January of 1997 until January of 1999, Ms. Buchanan served as the Boone County Prosecutor, during which time she gained extensive courtroom and trial experience. Ms. Buchanan oversaw the caseload of five deputy prosecutors and managed an office staff of ten during her tenure as the Boone County Prosecutor. Ms. Buchanan has been involved in the prosecution of all types of criminal offenses, ranging from traffic violations to murder.
In May, 2003, Ms. Buchanan resigned from the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office to pursue the private practice of law, launching Buchanan Law Office, Inc. in the village of Zionsville. Ms. Buchanan is a skilled litigator and has developed a reputation as an aggressive attorney and a trusted advisor. She has extensive litigation experience in complex family law matters and has been responsible for successfully defending the rights of criminal defendants at trial.
Ms. Buchanan is a member of the Boone County, Indiana and American Bar Associations, and is a registered Domestic Mediator. Ms. Buchanan has served as a past president of the Boone County Bar Association and, in 2010, received the Zonta Business Woman of the Year Award for her outstanding contribution to the community through her profession.
