Thomas Buchanan

Thomas Buchanan is an associate attorney at Buchanan & Bruggenschmidt. He focuses his practice primarily on estate planning, criminal defense and family law. Thomas earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude in 2019.  He obtained his B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University Bloomington in 2015 and graduated from Zionsville Community High School in 2011. Having worked at Buchanan & Bruggenschmidt alongside his family since 2008, Thomas has accumulated extensive first-hand experience in the wide array of legal matters the firm handles.

In law school, Thomas served as an editor on the Indiana Law Review, where he wrote about jail overcrowding and bail reform in Indiana. Thomas tutored students in legal writing for the Dean’s Tutorial Society and he served as the Public Relations Manager for the Environmental Law Society. While working as the firm’s law clerk, Thomas also externed with the Hon. Justice Steven H. David on the Indiana Supreme Court, interned for the Real Estate Litigation section of the Office of the Indiana Attorney General and volunteered for the Overdose Lifeline. While in Bloomington, Thomas worked for the Monroe County Drug Treatment Court and Reentry Court, where he helped rehabilitate criminals with substance abuse issues and assisted former convicts in adapting to life after incarceration. Thomas is a member of the Indiana and Boone County Bar Associations.
